Setting up the Scentalis Vita indoor hydroponic system is simple, even if you're new to indoor gardening. Whether you're growing herbs, vegetables, or flowers, this guide will walk you through each step to make sure your garden gets off to a great start.
Step 1: Unpack your Scentalis Vita
Before you begin, take a moment to check that you have everything you need:
- Light panel
- Water tank
- Extendable rod
- Support rods (12x)
- Pod plates (2x10 and 2x6 pods)
- Plate support (8x)
- Grow sponges, pods, and domes (20 of each)
- Power adapter
- Two bottles of nutrients (A and B)
You'll also need water and your choice of seeds, these are not included in the box.
Step 2: Choose the water tank cover
Choose the pod plate configuration that best suits your plants (you can choose 12, 16, or 20 pods).
Tip: For small seeds, plant 3-4 per sponge. For larger seeds like peas or cucumbers, 1-2 per sponge is enough.
Step 3: Assemble the legs
Attach the 8 plate support legs to the bottom of the tank cover. These will hold the tank cover in place.
Step 4: Assemble the pods & extendible rod
- Insert the grow sponges into each pod. These sponges are where you’ll place your seeds, and they’ll provide the perfect environment for them to sprout and grow.
- Attach the extendable rod to the water tank. This rod can be adjusted up to 25 inches to give your plants more room as they grow taller.
Step 5: Install the pump
The pump is what keeps water moving through your system, making sure your plants get the nutrients and oxygen they need.
- Place the pump in the center of the water tank. Ensure the filter clicks into place on top of the pump.
- Connect the pump cord to the power adapter, so it's ready to keep your plants hydrated. The pump will automatically run on a cycle, so you don’t need to worry about turning it on and off manually.
Step 6: Add water and nutrients
Now it’s time to fill the tank and give your plants a good start.
- Add cool water through the inlet on top of the tank. If your home has very hard water, you might want to mix it with distilled water for better results.
- Fill both nutrient bottles (A and B) with water to dissolve the granules. Then, pour 50ml of nutrient A and 50ml of nutrient B into the water tank.
Tip: Every two weeks, add more nutrients to keep your plants well-fed. Use 15ml of each nutrient for these follow-up doses.
Step 7: Plant your seeds
Now it's time to plant!
- Insert your seeds into the grow sponges. You can use your fingers or tweezers to gently place them in the sponge.
- Make sure the seeds are planted securely, but don’t push them too deep. The Scentalis Vita will take care of the rest by providing light and water.
Step 8: Turn it on and set the lights
- Plug in the power adapter and turn on your Scentalis Vita.
- The default mode is Flower mode, but if you’re growing herbs or leafy greens, you can switch to Leafy mode by pressing the mode button.
- You can also set the timer for the grow lights, which will run for 16 hours and then turn off for 8 hours to mimic natural sunlight.
Note: Remember, you’ll need to fill the tank with water first before you're able to adjust the settings. The system only allows changes once the water indicator light turns off.

Step 9: Monitor and maintain
Your Scentalis Vita is now ready to grow, and with its high-efficiency LED lights and timed pump system, your plants will thrive with minimal effort. Keep an eye on the nutrient and water indicator lights and you will be set.
To keep things running smoothly:
- Refill the water when indicated and ensure the tank stays topped off.
- Replenish the nutrients every two weeks as indicated.
- Prune your plants regularly to encourage growth and prevent overcrowding.
- Clean the pump filter occasionally to keep water circulating efficiently.
- Clean the entire water tank every few months to ensure cleanliness.
